Come February 2004, and it's MIFF time! A celebration of short films. A celebration
of the up surge of expressions, of styles and of opinions. A veritable ocean of
creativity.
MIFF! A much awaited event. An event that matters. An event that makes the two year
wait for it all the more worthwhile. Yes, MIFF does matter. I don't need to prove
it for you. You have proved it again. And yet again!
MIFF helps you make your voices heard, make your expressions appreciated and of
course makes your ends meet. Right! Now the buzzword is ‘marketing'! Whether you
like it or not you have to show case and sell your product. This does not mean that
you have to sacrifice your artistic impulses and be a slave to the market forces.
Rather this would make you more competitive and eager to move on with the time.
MIFF gives you the right platform to launch yourself. And don't ever forget our
most attractive cash awards!
The digital explosion the world over has transformed the documentary scenario. Now
the documentary is a part of the larger genre of ‘shortfilms' that include animation
and fiction too. In fact, the short fiction genre is gaining ground all the time.
Animation film has already become a high tech phenomenon pervading and fascinating
everybody's mind—from children to adults alike. We've made utmost efforts to keep
MIFF always ahead of times that you can see for yourself and benefit from it too.
Fourteen years of our hardwork and dedication. Fourteen years of your unending interest
and enthusiasm. And we arrive at the 8th version.
It is a moment of pride for me to welcome all the delegates to the 8th
Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short and Animation Films, 2004.
I'm sure the coming seven days will be very hectic ones for you all the competing
and guest filmmakers, the film critics-journalists-writers and the viewers. In Films
Division we are always committed to give you the best of the past and the best of
the contemporary documentary films. We are committed to making your encounter with
documentaries a most memorable one. Let the flag documentary film fly high.
Happy viewing!
