VIJAY BAHADUR CHANDRA

Vijay Bahadur Chandra was born in 1935, Allahabad , Uttar Pradesh. He graduated in Science from Allahabad University (1955) and then completed a diploma in Photography before joining the Division of Photography and Films in the Government of Uttar Pradesh as Officer-in-Charge (1955-61). He was promoted as Director in Films Division. He studied cinema abroad under a Ford Foundation fellowship. He became Producer in 1976, joint Chief Producer in 1985. He also took the initiative in starting the Bombay International Festival for Documentary and Short Films dand was its first Director (1990-93). He was also Additional Regional Officer of the Central Board of Film Censors (1974-78) and Director of the Film and Television Institute of India (1990-93). Over the years he has produced more than 400 films and directed 90 films. Prior to his demise in October, 2005 he was a consultant to Sahara India Television Network and Director of the International Centre for Environmental Films. He has served on several international juries and represented the Government of India on various international committees.
