FATHER,
SON AND HOLY WAR (PITRA, PUTRA AUR DHARAM YUDDA)
Director
- Ananda Patwardhan Country - India
|
|
|
| Synopsis:
Father, Son and Holy War began as a film about
communal violence in India. In the seven years it
took to complete, the connection between religion,
violence and male identity became increasingly apparent.
Politiics have changed in the world. Universalist
values are in short supply. The vacuum created by
the demise of socialist ideals has been filled by
religious revival. Minorities are the scapegoats
of ever calamity. Identity has closed in upon itself
as nations subdivide into narrower nationas, each
ready, almost eager, to annihilate the other or
extinguish itself an inevitable product of the very
construction of the notion of "manhood". The film
is divided into two parts, viz. Trial by Fire and
Hero Pharmacy. |
|
DIRECTOR'S
BIO-DATA : Born 1950. Anand did a B.A. in
English Literature and another B.A. in Sociology,
followed by an M.A. in Communication. He has been
active in the fight for civil liberties, housing
rights, the movements for communal harmony and
for a just and sustainable world.
