His IMAGI NINGTHEM won the Grand Prix at Nantes, France in 1982, while ISHANOU and SANABI confirmed him as a filmmaker of great importance. Though Aribam's films are apparently free from complexity, his themes are intricate and need close observation in terms of Manipuri Culture.
