JURY - INTERNATIONAL FILM COMPETITION

SANDRA KOGUT

SANDRA KOGUT - Sandra Kogut made ADIEU MONDE (PIERRE AND CLAIRE'S STORY) IN 1997. She won the Jury Prize at Estavar (France); the Jury Grand Prix at the French Short Film Festival of New York, and numerous awards at the Hamburg Short Film Festival and the Oberhausen Film Festival in Germany. In 1995, she won the award for the Best Short Film at the Kiev Film Festival (Ukraine), and also for the Best Short film at the Film Festival of Montecatini in Italy. In 1993, she won the Grand Prix at the Oberhausen Film Festival in Germany. An artist of some repute, she has participated in individual ang group shows, installations, performances at the Museum of Image and Sound I Sao Paulo, and other Galleries.

CATHERINE LE CLEF

Catherine Le Clef Born in Antwep, Belgium cut her teeth, as it were at the ARCHIVES D' ARCHITECTURE MODERNE in Brussels, Preserving the architectural heritage of Belgium. Her experience in Communications and Public Relations was soon noticed by UNIBELFFILM, and they invited her to promote films made by Belgium producers in the international film and television markets. She soon became the Vice President of FILMS TRANSIT INTERNATIONAL in Montreal and worked hard to export and import documentary films worldwide. Today, she is the Sales and Acquisition Manager of DOC & CO. in Paris, representing a catalogue of over 400 film titles in the field of Culture and the Arts, History and International News, Society, Discovery and Adventure and the Sciences. A few Documentary films in the Doc & Co stable are : JUSTICE, PUBLIC ENEMY, TRUTH COMMISSION, WAR AND PEACE IN IRELAND, SUGAR RAY ROBINSON, THE BOMBING, CORPUS CHRISTI, MASSOUD THE AFGAN, THE MEDELLIN NOTEBOOKS, THE SPECIALIST, ET AL.

 

VIJAYA MEHTA

Vijaya Mehta founded Mumbai's first truly experimental theatre group RANGAYAN - a nucleus of progressive playwrights, directors, and actors - and directed nearly 30 plays under the Rangayan banner. Then followed scholarships and invitations - to study acting directing, and training methods - from UK, France, West Germany, GDR, the erstwhile USSR and the USA. Her production: HAMIDABAI CHI KOTHI, BARRISTER, SANDHYA CHHAYA, SHAKUNTALA, HAYAVADAN received tremendous acclaim. In 1975 she received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and in 1985 the Padmashree from the President of India. In 1984, VIJAYA MEHTA expanded her interest to include films and television. Her films SMRITICHITRE, RAOSAHEB, PESTONJEE and her telefilms HAMIDABAI KI KOTHI, HAWELI BULUND THI, and the TV serial LIFELINE all won National and International Awards. In 1987 she was elected President of the Akhil Bharatiya Natya Parishad. From 1988 to 1992 she was Chairman of the National School of Drama, Delhi. Since 1993 she has been the Executive Director of the National Centrefor the Performing Arts.

 

RICHARD RASKIN

Richard Raskin has Born in New York in 1941, has a Ph. D in French Literature from John Hopkins University and a Doctorate in Philiosophy from the University of Arrhus where he is the Associate Professor in the Department of Information and Media Science. A teacher of screenwriting, he is the editor of a Danish Journal of Film Studies. He has served on several international short film and video festival juries in France, Belgium and Denmark. He was Chairman of the Jury at Aubagne in 1997 and Liege in 1998. He has written a number of books on film, art and humour, including a study of Alain Resnais documentary classic NIGHT AND FOG in 1987.

SUMITRA BHAVE

Sumitra Bhave Born in 1943 did her Masters in Social Work. She published the results of her research - on the self images of women - in her book "Pan of Fire" which she translated into film she scripts, edits and directs along with Co-director Sunil Sukthankar. She has made 2 feature films: DOGHI (Two Women) - an NFDC Production that won her the International Award at the Torino International Festival, Italy, Three National Awards, Eleven State Awards, Five Special Awards which include the Arvindan Award for Best Debut Film and the V. Shantaram Award. ZINDAGI ZINDABAD (Long Live Life) - has been screened in many International Films Festivals including - Mill Valley film Festival, San Francisco, Gay & Lesbian Festival, Amsterdam, Gay & Lesbian Festival, San Francisco and the Soorya Film Festival, Thiruvananthapuram. She has made 14 Documentaries. Her documentaries BAI and PANI won National Awards, and were screened in many International Festivals. CHAKORI won two International Awards including the Critics Award at the Bombay International Film Festival in 1994. She directed 26 episodes the TV Serial BHAINS BARABAR for the National Literacy Mission, She served as a Jury Member at the Torino International Film Festival Italy (Short Films) (1997); Mill Valley International Film Festival, USA (Short Films)(1998) and Awards Committee for the 46th national Film Festival (Feature Films) (1999).

 

VIJAY CHANDRA

VIJAY CHANDRA - Producer, Director, Writer, Cinematographer Vijay Chandra has over 400 films to his credit. Winner of over 20 International and 14 National awards, Chandra was recognized as the first cameraman to film the Rupkund Expedition to the Himalayas, in 1956 at a height of 5,486 meters. His experimental films THE BROKEN VASE AND CHILD ON A CHESS BOARDS won his much recognition. His films on International events like ASIAD-82, CHOGM, NAM received several national awards. He became the first recipient of the ford Foundation Fellowship in 1968, and traveled to the USA, Canada, Europe, Japan, Korea etc studying and practicing cinema. He is the founder-Director of the Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short & Animation Films. And has been a member of the International Film Jury at several Festivals held in Germany, USA, Brazil and other countries. In 1993 after his retirement as Chief Producer and Head of Films Division and Director of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) he took up his creative activities as writer, director, producer of Feature, children and Documentary Films. Currently he is working on a full-length feature film on the life and work of the visionary Raghunath Dhondu Karve who advocated FamilyPlanning one hundred years ago.
